I am having no luck with baked fries. I've followed recipes to a T, and the fries will stick to the cookie sheet or foil and rip in half when I try to pick them up, every time. I've used parchment paper, no-stick cooking spray, foil, coated the fries in oil, whatever the recipe calls for, I've tried it all, and cannot get them to not stick to the sheet. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
We got a chihuahua/terrier mix a little over a week ago. A puppy we rescued from the SPCA. He still isn't housebroken, although we are making good progress. He was a birthday gift to Kristin. We've been wanting to get a new dog ever since our yellow lab passed away last February. We went to the equestrian show and the SPCA had a booth there with some dogs in a cage. That got us to swing by the SPCA on our way home to look at more dogs. Kristin fell in love with a few, but this little puppy was the one that was actually available for adoption. When all the dogs in the pound would go haywire, jumping and barking, he didn't really react to that or add to the barking. Toney really liked that aspect, our black lab is hyper enough, we need a more sedate dog to accompany her. I think he's pretty calm for a chihuahua mix, although he does the typical puppy behavior of darting everywhere and chewing everything. The two dogs have taken to each other already and spend all their time together.

I always have a couple that stick. What if you used a cooling rack over a cookie sheet, that would keep them off the sheet itself?
Pictures of the puppy coming soon? How is school going?
I could try that, I suppose, I've tried everything else. Toney recommended I rinse the fries after I've cut them, and that it will wash off the starch. I will give that a try too. None of the recipes say to do that though, I'm one of those who needs the recipe to spell it out exactly for me.
Pictures soon, Toney has the camera at work right now.
School is going great. The classwork is too easy, and we've met with the teacher recently to ask her to bump it up a notch. Kristin's not ready to skip to second grade, but the first grade stuff is all so simple. It's interesting how huge the difference is between the first and second grade work. I guess there is a huge learning plateau reached at that age.
I think I'm going to be the room Mom, I heard that from another mother today but haven't spoken with the teacher.
Although the curriculum is a bit lacking right now, my fears about being ostracized by the parents doesn't seem to be coming to pass. School was always cruel for me and I feared Kristin would experience even a fraction of what I went through. Although one mom was intolerant, I am making good 'mom-friends' and Kristin is really making a place for herself in the school. Things are going really good on that front.
I wouldn't have even thought to tell you to rinse the potatoes. I always do that anyhow, even if I'm boiling them. To wash any stray dirt and the starch on the cut surfaces.
I have the same anxiety about the park that it seems you have about school. I truly hated going to the park as a kid and now it just gives me anxiety. Especially going through that stage where he doesn't want to share and wants to take everything.
Let me know how the fries turn out. Do you bake green beans too? Yummy.
Can't help with the fries, have never made them myself. They come frozen in a bag :-)
Good Luck with the puppy.
