It worries me, our way of life will drastically have to change. 1 in 5 people in Salinas are out of work, that's 20% of the town, almost twice the national average. Nobody is hiring.
I was contract/self-employed and since no one is hiring, I feel my best option is to start my own business. But I can't describe how monumental that feels, my career has stalled, and I feel too old to start over.
What I worry about most, of course, is Kristin.

I can weather this storm, we can get through this. But the future is very uncertain right now.

ive been jobless since sept 2008. no one is hiring . thankfully my fiance supports me and the boys..
hugs, i hope something good will happen for you all...
I'm so sorry to hear that. I wish there was some way I could help.
Steve, I wish we could be there for you:( Be strong. I am sure something will come up.
Having been through it, I promise, you'll be okay. We don't go out to eat often (okay, ever) anymore. We have more family walks and together time. We've dropped Shotime and HBO and increased our Netflix (SO much cheaper!). There are so many ways to survive on one salary, and, IMHO, the payoff with the time spent working on home and family is so much better than any salary.
