Blogging as income

I saw an article at the Huffington Post that stated that almost 1% of all Americans now earn their primary income blogging. There are more professional bloggers than there are firefighters in this country.

Well there is my part time work. That's what I need to do, because it's home based, and I could still homeschool and set my own hours. And I love to blog. I don't think Adamant Sun would go beyond what it is now though, just an online diary of a gay parent. But I can look into creating other blogs, perhaps food or gardening, or a life in the central valley type of blog. The idea is still percolating in my head, but I think this is the direction for me.

Do any of you make money on your blogs? Care to share any experiences, success stories or stories of failure?

Hi Steve,
This is Steven from Book Dads and Green Dads. We only make a couple dollars a month from our two blogs. So I hardly qualify as an expert, but here's what I would do.

I'd bet you could combine both cooking and gardening into a really cool blog. Something like "The Kitchen Garden" or some other interesting and unique name to you. Get your own domain name. Write interesting articles and have something like an Amazon affiliates account where you could link to useful products mentioned in the article about cooking or gardening. There are lots of other online affiliate opportunities just do a google search.

Eventually companies will notice and even offer products for you to try out, review and even maybe to giveaways to readers. Email me if you want to talk steven at greendadsblog dot com

What about a blog that involves the above with the experiences of learning to balance your domestic role with that of home schooling without the luxury of excess wealth. You could explore the variety of home school theories, materials, resources, places to use for field trips, etc... how you can use the everyday activities of a family to teach: math, science, grammar, history etc..
